SENSEI STEVE CALDER  BSc. MA.  -----------------------------------------

3rd Dan Black Belt

Level 3 Coach

BJJAGB Senior Referee & Judge

Steve is the Head Coach/Sensei for our Benfleet and Hadleigh Clubs, and is also one of our instructors for the popular Saturday morning kids competition, and junior, classes in Stanford

Steve was first introduced to the wonders of Ju-Jitsu, when he was 14, by his then Judo instructor who was also a Black Belt [in Ju-Jitsu].

After a gap of several years, trying his hand at several other Martial Arts including Karate and Wing Chung, Steve returned to ‘the gentle art’ - as he felt it was the most efficient and well rounded of all the arts.

He has now spent over a decade practising Ju-Jitsu, during which time he has achieved great successes in both National and International competition.

Steve is also one of Stanford Warriors' official Kobudo instructors.

Steve is also Stanford Warriors' official Kobudo instructor.

 SENSEI ANGELA CONQUEST  -------------------------------------------

2nd Dan Black Belt

Level 3 Coach

Level 4 Weapons Instructor

Angela is the Head Coach/Sensei of our Chafford Hundred and Noak Bridge clubs.

Angela is one of Sensei Brian's longest serving students, having been taught by him since she herself was a pee-wee, and was one of his first Junior Black Belts.

Since then, Angela has proved to be a vital component in the on-going growth [of Stanford Warriors] over the last few years. Having taken over the Chafford Hundred operation - to great effect - and from building her own club in Noak Bridge, Angela has become a firm favourite with many of the young warriors who have joined our ranks.

In early 2014, Angela started her first full Adult class, again in Noak Bridge. These have proved to be a great success and very popular. In June, her students all completed their first grading [Yellow Belt] to an incredibly high standard - something to be immensely proud of indeed!

 SENSEI PHIL JOHNSON  -------------------------------------------------

2nd Dan Black Belt

Level 2 Coach

Level 5 Weapons Instructor

Phil has been with the club since it formed in the Autumn of 2005.

He was the first adult to register under the Stanford Warriors banner, and has been training under Sensei Brian ever since.

Phil was amongst the first adults to attain 1st Dan Black Belt [under the Stanford Warriors name] alongside Sensei Julie. Both had the rare honour of being graded by Sensei (10th Dan) Professor Terry Parker!

In the Summer of 2007, Phil produced the first ever Stanford Warriors movie; 'WAY OF THE WARRIORS', which documented the events of our huge Ju-Jitsu Demonstration, which was held at Corringham Village Hall. A sequel followed in 2008, alongside an 'epic' 4 hour film covering the whole of the club's Junior Ju-Jitsu Championships. Phil is also responsible for the club's well-known logo and badge.

In 2014, Phil took part in his first ever International competition, winning a Silver [for Continuous Fighting] at the first attempt.

You will often find Phil coaching at various classes and clubs (something which he has a great passion for) and, if you're lucky, you just might get to see him being beaten up by Sensei Brian during the occasional Sunday morning class! (something that Sensei has a great passion for!)

 SENSEI JULIE JOHNSON  ------------------------------------------------

2nd Dan Black Belt

Level 2 Coach

Level 5 Weapons Instructor

Julie is one of the longest serving members of Stanford Warriors, and has been training with Sensei Brian since early 2004, having taken her Yellow Belt shortly before the formation of the club in 2005. She has been a key member of the team ever since.

Julie was one the original founders of the popular Weapons Class, and can often be found teaching on a Sunday morning (alongside Sensei Terry).

Julie also assists Sensei Angela every Thursday with the busy Chafford Hundred club.

Julie was one of the the first women to attain the grade of 1st Dan Black Belt under the Stanford Warriors banner - a notable event in the clubs history!

 SENSEI TERRY MAYHEW  -----------------------------------------------

2nd Dan Black Belt

Level 2 Coach

Level 5 Weapons Instructor

Terry has been learning the 'gentle art' since 1985, when he trained - and gained his Black Belt's - under Sensei (10th Dan) Professor Terry Parker and our very own Sensei Mallon.

In early 2014, Stanford Warriors were delighted to add Terry to our ever growing list of Black Belt coaches. With almost 30 years of Ju-Jitsu experience under his belt[s], Terry has become a most welcome addition to the team.

Terry can now be found applying his trade in the Sunday morning Weapons class alongside Sensei Julie and, occasionally, patrolling the mat during the later Adult's class.

 SENSEI CLARE LAING  ---------------------------------------------------

2nd Dan Black Belt

Level 2 Coach

Level 5 Weapons Instructor

First Aid Officer

Clare is our First Aid Officer, and runs the First Aid courses [as required by the BJJA] for all the club's Coaches and Black Belts.

Claire has proved to be one of the club’s most successful adults at competition level over the past few years. Since 2010, our Clare has raked in an impressive 14 medals* – consisting of 7 Bronze, 4 Silver and 3 Gold's.

These have been attained in a variety of categories, from Open-Hand Kata to Random Attacks and Weapons Displays. In addition, Clare won Silver for the ‘Pairs Demo’ at the 2013 National Event.

We look forward to Clare adding to her amazing ‘War Chest’ over the coming years!

 SENSEI BRIDIE MALLON  -----------------------------------------------

2nd Dan Black Belt

Level 2 Coach

Level 5 Weapons Instructor

Licencing Officer

Sensei Bridie gained her Second Dan in 2013, alongside Sensei Scott.

Bridie has spent many a Saturday and Sunday morning working with the club’s Pee-Wee warriors, and can still be seen lending a helping hand from time to time. Although a nasty back injury has unfortunately side-lined Bridie from training/coaching of late, she is still an unstoppable force behind the scenes.

Not only is Bridie Stanford Warriors’ official Licensing Officer, she is also jointly responsible (alongside Gill and the Admin Team), for the organisation and running of the club’s many competitions and special events.
