“Little Warriors” is the name of a Ju Jitsu club that was formed by Sensei Brian Mallon 5th Dan. Sensei Mallon’s
positive attitude and belief that young children should learn this ancient
Ju-Jitsu is translated into English as “gentle art”. The earliest form of Ju-Jitsu is recorded in
Ju-Jitsu today is based on unarmed self-defence. The Art of using the traditional Japanese weapons is still practiced by Little Warriors today, and is considered to be beneficial to the skills base of the Ju Jitsu exponent. However, Ju-Jitsu is geared more towards the street situations that are sadley being encountered in modern society today.
These situations can include; muggers, robbers, rapists, or simply thugs who consider perpetrating violence upon others as fun! Ju-Jitsu shows you how to use your body to defend yourself against attackers, with minimal effort and maximum effect. Strength need not be the prime consideration, as utilising locking techniques and knowing where and how to strike, will enable the student to act, and win. The self-confidence that comes with being ready, willing and able to protect yourself, becomes self evident to others, and the attacker is likely to seek out an easier target
Yes, Ju-Jitsu is self defence. But Little Warriors is so much more than that, the children train to a nationally recognised syllabus that is governed by JIKISHIN JUJITSU and BRITISH JU-JITSU ASSOCIATION GB who are our governing bodies. All of the children are invited to demonstrate their abilities at “Gradings” where they can obtain a different coloured belt and a certificate of merit…..but the best bit, mum and dad can watch and see how their child has progressed and of course there are plenty of photo opportunities.
In addition to this, Little Warriors can also train with traditional Japenese weapons from the age of six. These weapons include, Nunchuka, Sai, Tonfa and Bo. Pictures of these weapons in use can be found on the “Warriors in Action” page of this website.
There are also opportunities to enter club, regional and national competitions and in recent times Little Warriors have done themselves proud, including a very respectable medal haul at the recent National Championships.
But, most of all it is about enjoyment and self-confidence. The aim of Sensei Mallon is to build an inner-strength that stays with children into adult-hood and can help them deal with real life issues.
